What time is it? It's coffee time!!
In a previous post, I wrote about a rough draft for the opening's story; I kept working on it and it's storyboard and decided to call it "The tune of the stars." However, I recently decided to scrap it. Although the story is heart crushing at times and has a beautiful message, I crammed too many themes into it; the love of a mother & father, a coming of age story, self-discovery, hard work, existential questioning, death & tragedy, etc. I had to scrap this complicated narrative because, in order to properly do it justice, the opening would need much more time than the 2 minutes I'm given. Since I still did a few frames of the storyboard, I plan on including it in my future storyboarding post!
Because I scrapped the first rough draft, I began to work on a second one! My second narrative was about another young child who wanted to be a soccer player. One night, as the kid is drawing away, his dad comes into the room drunk and takes his drawing. The dad is violent and screaming as he tears the paper into pieces and throws it to the burning BBQ grill; however, one piece escapes the fire and the kid finds it. The story would then follow the kid's journey becoming a soccer player dealing with domestical abuse. Unfortunately, I also scrapped this story because I felt it was too cliche. I know this situation itself happens to many people, but it's also very over-done in storytelling (because it happens to so many people and they infuse it in their stories).
I'm now beginning to panic as I'm becoming desperate to find the right story and this scrapping process has delayed my entire calendar! It seems like everyone has their projects all figured out already; Hopefully, I'll be able to settle on a story soon!
